Description
Here is an unusual piece of sheet music, “Mister Dooley”, featured in L. Frank Baum’s early Wizard of Oz stage musical. The decorated cover has an inset photograph of John E Slavin, who played the Wizard of Oz himself, and “Sung in The Wizard of Oz” at the top. (Less collectible versions exist without The Wizard of Oz or its actors on the cover, as the song was first used in The Chinese Honeymoon musical). Words by Wm Gerome, music by Jean Schwartz. Copyright 1902, Shapiro, Bernstein & Von Tilzer Company. 3 leaves including covers. Oversized, original.
In fair only condition with substantial edge wear and tear, spine completely separated, former owner’s last name on front cover. Still a rare piece, complete, and only the second of this tune I’ve been able to find with the Wizard of Oz blurb, and the first with Slavin as the Wizard cast member.
