SOLD: L Frank Baum Son Harry Neal Baum 1960 Handwritten Letter, OzCot Lodge, Oz-Maniacs

Out of stock

THIS ITEM IS NOW SOLD. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE. Here is a long original signed letter from Harry Neal Baum, L Frank Baum’s son who ran OzCot Lodge in on Bass Lake, Indiana. The first International Wizard of Oz Club convention was held there in 1961 and later, the Ozmapolitan conventions until 1967, when Harry crossed the Shifting Sands. This letter is dated November 15, 1955 and is written to Mrs Alla T Ford, who was one of the 16 founding members of the International Wizard of Oz Club, as well as a serious collector and book seller. In Harry’s letter, he discusses the possibility of purchasing one of Ford’s books (The Musical Fantasies of L Frank Baum). However, “so far, guests have wanted to purchase only “Oz” books”, but he goes on to say that perhaps if “we begin to get what my wife calls Oz-Maniacs”, he may be interested in Ford’s book. Apparently he’s unaware at this time that there will be an International Wizard of Oz Club descending upon him the next summer! Harry also discusses various renovations being completed at the Lodge.

This item is part of a large lot of fascinating Oz correspondence that I bought years ago, and finally decided to sell the remaining pieces. It’s from the estate of Alla T. Ford herself. I have retained copies of all the letters in the lot, and reserve the right to use them at any time for various purposes. However, you will be getting the one-of-a kind original for your collection!
