Description

Scarce sheet music, Charles Dillingham featuring Fred Stone who starred as the Scarecrow in the 1902/3 musical version of L Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz. Stone’s career was relatively long and this is from a 1920’s play, Criss-Cross, of which the JacksonNupperCo website says: “This might as well be called the second edition of The Stepping Stones, for once again Kern paired with Anne Caldwell to craft a score for a lavishly mounted Dillingham production starring Broadway legend Fred Stone and his daughter Dorothy…The globe-trotting story was little else than a means for shtick and extravagance, but the production was well received and had a nice healthy run.” I’m not sure whether the Charles Dillingham play producer here is related to the Dillingham publisher who handled some of W W Denslow’s books.

The song featured is “Sunny”, published by T B Harms (1925), in nice condition except for the name “Murphy” written on the front cover.
