Description

Here’s a rare early sheet music piece from the Wizard of Oz stageplay, “When the Circus Comes to Town, The New Song Hit of the Wizard of Oz”. Published on May 10, 1903 by permission of Sol Bloom as a supplement to the New York American and Journal. Extremely fragile as it’s on old newsprint. Four pages including covers. Beautiful color cover with a little girl looking into a circus tent with an inset of Lotta Faust, who played Dorothy in the play. There is an artist’s signature, H B Eddy at the bottom left. Eddy was a self-taught newspaper artist: http://strippersguide.blogspot.com/2016/07/ink-slinger-profiles-by-alex-jay-hb-eddy.html
What is really interesting is that this piece was issued in two different color schemes for different newspapers, this one, with the black and orange printing, and another one, with red and olive green ink, shown in the last image. I’m listing both color schemes at this time, as separate listings.

In good condition considering its fragility–front cover quite nice, just a couple tiny tears, although the rear cover extends out farther and so has extensive chipping along the fore-edge. Spine intact. Age browning but otherwise the graphics are in good shape with no writing or staining.
