Description

This is a set of 6 glossy B&W prints from newspaper pages for the “Queer Visitors from The Marvelous Land of Oz” comic strip. The strip was written by Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum, illustrated by Walt MacDougall, and serialized from August 28, 1904 to February 26, 1905. It tells of Oz characters on a tour of the United States used to publicize The Marvelous Land of Oz book of 1904. These are printed on glossy stock and are slightly smaller than the originals. I believe they were used to print the comics for issues of the Baum Bugle, as they are from the collection of Bugle editor David Greene and have his note on one: “Have we used this yet? No”. There are two sizes, 14×19″ (Sept 18, Oct 2, Oct 23 1904) and 11×17″ (Nov 20, Dec 18, Dec 25 1904). I didn’t search through all the Bugles to find these particular episodes, but I know that some Queers Visitors were used for the centerfolds. An interesting lot of Oziana and Bugle history.

In fair to good condition, very tightly rolled with edge wear, folds and small tears.
