Description

Here is a scarce item for you collectors of all things related to Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum–The Show Window, a Journal for The Merchant, Aug 1902 (Vol XI, No 2). Baum started editing this journal in 1897 and contributed much of its content through 1900 when he went on to other things. In Bibliographia Baumiana, author Bill Thompson says “even after the Merchants Record Company took over publication of The Merchants Record and Show Window in 1903, Baum continued to contribute to the magazine”. I do not see his byline in this 1902 issue, but any issues of this publication are extremely scarce, with no issues available online at the time of my listing. It’s pretty amazing the breadth that Baum had, writing technical information about raising chickens and decorating show windows, while also writing children’s books!

The journal is about 50 pages and filled with photographs of store windows, articles and advertisements for the Chicago region. Large format, 9.5″ by 13″. Staples binding in fair condition with substantial cover wear and tear. Interior complete and generally very good.
