Description
Here is a lovely book by Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum called Queen Zixi of Ix, or, The Story of the Magic Cloak. Illustrations are by Frederick Richardson, published in October 1905 by the Century Co. in NY (press of Braunworth & Co). 16 fabulous color plates. According to the Book Collector’s Guide to Baum, this is a first edition, second printing! With the 1905 date on the title page, illustrated front and rear cover, and illustration on p. 171 in blue-green and black.
Frank J. Baum wrote, “My father always said he believed this story to the the best fairy tale he ever wrote”. See for yourself! 303 pages, including 16 three-color plates that are not done justice by the photos. Also many beautiful in-text illustrations in pink & black, gold/orange & black and light turquoise & black. They don’t make books like this any more!
This book is in beautiful condition. Exterior very good plus–light rubbing spine ends and corner cloth rubbed. Interior is also very good plus, with tight hinges, 1906 inscription, clean pages (light age toning and a few pages with a tan stain at top). All 16 plates present and in excellent condition. Probably the nicest copy I’ve seen of this unusual Oz-related collectible.
