Description
L. Frank Baum (of Wizard of Oz fame) also wrote other children’s books under the Laura Bancroft pseudonym. Here is a highly desirable little one called Bandit Jim Crow. This is one of the six Baum “Twinkle Tales” and is quite hard to find. With illustrated cover and fourteen full page and some partial page color illustrations by famed illustrator Maginel Wright Enright (sister to Frank Lloyd Wright)! Copyright 1906, this the first printing of the first edition with cloth cover, red endpapers and a hand lettered title page. Published by Reilly & Britton (later reprinted by Reilly & Lee.) Book is small, about 5″ by 7″ and 63 pages.
In Baum’s book, Bandit Jim Crow actually is a crow. This is the story of his criminal behaviour and subsequent rehabilitation by fellow birds, including Policeman Bluejay, who is the subject of another of the Twinkle Tale books.
This copy in fair to good condition, with intact spine, some scuffing and soiling to cover, endpapers clean and hinges intact. Possible glue repair at half-title page, which doesn’t open completely. A little staining to margins of title page and first few pages. Internal pages with some finger soiling.
