Here is a rare find: one of the Aunt Jane’s Nieces series with intact dust jacket! Collectors have been snapping these up. Red Cross is the tenth (and last) of the series for girls written by L. Frank Baum (Wizard of Oz author) under the Edith Van Dyne pseudonym. Copyright 1915 and again in 1918 by Reilly & Britton (the story was rewritten to reflect wartime sentiment). Oval color illustration on cover, B&W frontispiece by Norman Hall. The dust jacket is the first Reilly & Lee printing, with titles through Mary Louise Adopts a Soldier on the flap, and the oval cover design from AJN on Vacation.
The book is in near very good condition, with a slight spine lean, some dirt in joint but cover illustration is still fabulous and cloth is nice. Interior has a bookseller’s pencil number on front endpaper and a little staining along edges of frontispiece and top of title page. Hinges tight and unbroken. The jacket is good, complete but with a large stain (tea?) on spine and rear, and some old tape on back side supporting joints.
