Here is another scarce Oz-related book. This is the 1st edition, 1st printing of Aunt Jane’s Nieces Abroad with the unusual deluxe GREEN cover. Second of the series for girls written by L. Frank Baum under the Edith Van Dyne pseudonym. Published in 1906 Reilly & Britton. Oval color illustration on front cover, very nice gilt title and adornment, FIVE B&W plates by E. A. Nelson. Book is about 5 1/2 x 8″. All the later printings have a tan cover, and most have just the frontispiece rather than all five plates .
Condition is only fair, due to several flaws: cover with substantial soiling and loss to cover label, spine faded with fraying and 1/2″ tear to top. Interior missing half title page with binding shaken as a result. Rear hinge cracked and endpapers dirty. Happily, all 5 B&W plates present and in decent shape. Soiling to pages. Not the best, by any means, but a quite hard to find 1st in any condition–a placeholder offered at a discounted price.
