Here is a scarce Baum book: “American Fairy Tales” (reading copy). Published in 1901, this is the George M. Hill Company first edition (later reprinted by Bobbs Merrill). Illustrated by the Wogglebug Book’s Ike Morgan, The Army Alphabet’s Harry Kennedy, and Norman P Hall. Unpaginated, with 12 individual fairy tales, with beautiful black and white illustrated borders on each page. Gilt top edge.
Fabulous period advertisements in the back including Father Goose– “The Most Successful Child’s Book Ever Published in America”, and, the best part, an ad for the Geo. M Hill, first ever, edition of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Book is rough condition; one of my “Wild and Homeless” books for the non judgemental collector. Front cover illustration and spine are almost entirely faded out as shown. Corner bumping. Spine appears to been reglued to text block. Missing front endpaper(s) (opens to half title page). Hinges glue repaired. Some staining and tears to pages. A few illustrations have been watercolored. Sold as is with all faults; a copy for reading or research.
