L. Frank Baum (of Wizard of Oz fame) also wrote other children’s books under the Edith Van Dyne pseudonym. Here is a desirable early one, The Flying Girl, published by Reilly & Britton, 1911. First edition, first issue with four black and white plates by Joseph Pierre Nuyttens and white lettering on cover and spine! (per Book Collector’s Guide to L. Frank Baum).
Condition is good but not very good; front and rear covers have wear, esp. to spine ends; the spine lettering is faded, slight cock to book. Inside, the front hinge is cracked, the rear has been glue repaired and is missing a little paper at top. There is a former owner’s pencil inscription, a small tear at base of free endpaper. The four plates are present and in good condition although one appears to have been reinserted and has a small chip at bottom. The book is complete, and pages are in good condition with no major tears or defects noted. A decent copy of an unusual Baum first, at a good price.
