Scarce Mickey Mouse “phenakistoscope”, copyright 1929 by Ub Iwerks and featuring Mickey Mouse to help advertise the films. The piece was featured in Cecil Munsey’s Disneyana book on page 22, and was purchased from his estate. It was made to stick a pin through the middle, spin while looking through the slits with a mirror and Mickey will move. Measures about 9″ x 9.5″ with the disc itself 8″ in diameter, on card stock. In very clean condition, and comes with a sheet of Munsey’s stationery as provenance (he was a bottle collector too). Note: I’ve found 3 examples of this sold on Ebay between 2022-2025 for $495, $145, and $495. At first I thought this might be an early reproduction because it’s in such good shape, but the other ones were in similar condition. I’m pricing on the low end of those sold listings, and you can do your own research.
