Description

Here is an unusual set of two Family Circle magazines from 1939 related to the Wizard of Oz!

The 21 July 1939 magazine has Ray Bolger as the Scarecrow on the cover, and a three-page article of the movie. This is the Midwest variant with the extra Winkie guard photo in the back! Unlike most of the printings, the article’s continuation on p. 18 has an extra photo with the caption “Having disposed of the Wicked Witch of the West, the Tin Woodman, the Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow celebrate by dressing up like Winkie guards.” In good only condition, with some chipping to the fragile paper at corners and edges, age toning. The companion magazine from Sept 15, 1939 has Bert Lahr as the Cowardly Lion on the cover. This one has a favorable review of the movie in the “Reel Dope” column. In very good condition, with some age toning and orner wear. A wonderful set of vintage Oz memorabilia!
