Here is a scarce book, The Three Bears, illustrated by Wizard of Oz illustrator John R. Neill. Copyright 1908, this is the 1st edition by Reilly & Britton, one of the rare Children’s Stories that Never Grow Old series. This title was bound with a pale blue cover with pink flowers. Unlike the later Children’s Red Book series, it just contains the one story but still has the lavish color endpapers, a color title page and frontispiece, and color illustrations on many of the 28 numbered pages.
Like many of these fragile titles in this binding style, the book is only in good minus condition. The paper over the spine is mostly gone, and there is a little paper loss on the front cover also. Inside, the text pages are still attached to the stapled binding, but a little loose, and there is some glue residue on inner 4-page gathering. Pencil inscription in Book Belongs To box has been erased. Otherwise, the pages are clean without writing, scribbling or tears. A rare Neill work–could not find any others online!
