Here is an unusual children’s book illustrated by Wizard of Oz artist John R. Neill. “Children’s Stories that Never Grow Old”, adapted by Mary Stone. This was originally published in 1908 by Reilly & Britton; here a ca. 1920 Reilly & Lee edition. A collection from the “Children’s Stories that Never Grow Old” series of individual fairy tale titles, including Little Black Sambo (racial stereotyped), Peter Rabbit, Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty, Jack and the Beanstalk, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, etc. Each illustrated in gorgeous full color and black and white by Neill. 248 numbered pages.
Exterior of book is in nice condition, with clear graphics and just light edge wear. Inside, there is crayon marking over prior owner’s name on front blank endpaper. Binding is cracked in spots but pages are holding together, pages have some soiling here and there, illustrations are generally very good. A nice example of Neill’s non-Oz work.
