Here is a very unusual little item, an original “Be Sunny” button advertising “Force” cereal in the early 1900’s. Sunny Jim went through many incarnations throughout his tenure as Force mascot, but this version seems to be that designed by W. W. Denslow, the original illlustrator of the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. SJ on this button looks just like the character in Denslow’s advertising booklet from 1910, Around the World with Sunny Jim (see bottom photos, booklet not included). Button says “Buttons made by The Whitehead and Hoag Co.” with an 1896 patent date; this refers to the button style as I have seen a 1904 Wogglebug pin with the same imprint.
The button is in good condition, with a little roughness to the enamel. Pin is intact. A large 1 3/4″ in diamater. Enjoy.
